The 1st Huairou Forum
The First Huairou Forum on Life Health and Biomedical Imaging was held on October 9–10, 2021. It invited 15 domestic experts and scholars, including Academicians Qiao Jie, Li Peng, Zhang Xue-min, and Zhan Qi-min, to deliver presentations. The forum also organized four roundtable discussions, attracting over 150 participants for exchanges. The event received media coverage from sources such as the Beijing Municipal People’s Government website, Peking University News Network, and The Paper.
The 2nd Huairou Forum
The 2nd Huairou Forum on Innovation and Industrial Development in Biomedical Imaging was held on November 3–4, 2022. Nobel laureate Professor Stefan Hell delivered the opening keynote address. Over ten academicians and experts, including Academician Jiang Baoguo, Academician Fang Jiancheng, Academician Lu Lin, and French Academy of Sciences Academician Jacques Souquet, gave thematic presentations. Academician Zhao Jizong, Professor Chen Liangyi, and Professor Sun Yujie chaired three roundtable discussions. More than 200 participants attended and exchanged ideas. The event received extensive media coverage from sources including the Beijing Municipal People’s Government website, Peking University News Network, and Tencent News.
The 3rd Huairou Forum
The 3rd Huairou Forum: Future Technologies and Future Scientists in Biomedical Imaging was held from November 3 to 5, 2023. The event invited 18 international experts, including Nobel laureate Stefan W. Hell and Xie Xiaoliang, Jan Ellenberg, Lihong V. Wang, Yale E. Goldman, and Jennifer Lippincott-Schwartz, as well as 16 domestic experts, who delivered academic presentations. Over 200 participants attended the forum for exchanges. The conference received extensive coverage from Xinhua News Agency and MedTec platforms.
Scientific Research Progress
2025 DIGITAL LIFE SYMPOSIUM: Trans-scale Imaging and Integrated Islet Biology
From August 26th to 28th, 2025, the first Digital Life Symposium: Cross-Scale Imaging and Integrated Islet Biology was successfully held in Huairou Science City, Beijing. This conference was hosted by Peking University and co-organized by the Biomedical Imaging Branch of the Chinese Biophysical Society, the Beijing Laboratory for Biomedical Imaging, etc. The aim was to fully leverage the leading role of the national multimodal cross-scale biomedical imaging facilities and promote the deep integration of imaging technology with diabetes research. The conference focused on the interdisciplinary integration theme of “Imaging Technology - Cell Biology - Clinical Medicine”, and delved into cutting-edge scientific issues such as the analysis of islet heterogeneity, β-cell function and regeneration, and signal transduction mechanisms. A total of 38 renowned experts and scholars from domestic and overseas universities and research institutions attended this conference, with nearly 200 people in total.
Super-Resolution Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy Training Program
From January 14th to 16th, 2026, the first “Super-resolution Photoelectric Correlation Electron Microscopy Technology Training Course” was successfully held in the Multi-modal Cross-scale Biomedical Imaging Facility of Beijing Huairou Science City. Organized by the Biomedical Imaging Branch of the Chinese Biophysical Society and jointly hosted by the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Beijing Laboratory of Biomedical Imaging, this training course attracted over 50 participants including trainees, domestic and foreign lecturers, enterprise representatives, and relevant staff. The training course focused on cutting-edge interdisciplinary technologies such as super-resolution optical imaging, electron microscopy, cryo-electron microscopy, and photoelectric correlation imaging (CLEM), and constructed a systematic teaching and practical system. It played a positive exemplary role in promoting the improvement of cross-scale analysis capabilities for complex biological samples and the cultivation of high-end imaging technology talents.
The Strategic Workshop on the Panoramic Digital Life Big Science Initiative
On April 21, 2026, the “Strategic Seminar on the Panoramic Digital Life International Grand Scientific Project” was held at Peking University. This event aimed to lay a solid ideological foundation and gather cooperative forces for China to take the lead in implementing this international grand scientific project. Representatives from top domestic research institutions, universities, hospitals, industries, charitable organizations, and news media participated in the event to discuss the blueprint for the cutting-edge development in the field of digital life. Ten institutions, including relevant research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, and Wuhan University, signed a cooperation memorandum with Peking University, marking the official entry of the Panoramic Digital Life International Grand Scientific Project into the substantive implementation stage.
